salt replenishment
In endurance events, an average person has in his/her body about 2-4hours of salt (sodium chloride) worth to deplete.
Afterwards, it is needed to be replenish at a moderate rate of about 300mg/hr.
The lack of it can cause muscle twitching, abnormal heartbeat and hypoventilation. In short it can cause underperformance.
For long rides and races, it is imperative that we put a pinch of salt in the water bottles to help replenish the salt in our bodies.
