Re: 2011 Ipoh Century ride
ride report i put in the JR forum
It was still dark and sleepy when we made our way to the starting line which is just 500m from the hotel.
The starting line was already jampacked with hundreds of cyclists and all had to squeeze in the bottleneck timing mat after the horns were blown.
Lucky there was a neutral start and was somehow able to warm up the sleepy legs.
Then the speed started to pickup after the neutral distance and found myself hanging for dear life.
Lucky again that the peloton was huge and was able to hang on. go go go!
Goal for this ride is to conserve energy for the 160km finish is still faraway!!!
We came into the rolling terrain sections and found myself hanging on a thread when the pack was splintering.
The pack was quite nervous for alot of riders were hollering when compression happens due to a lull in the pace.
Anyways I rode using my mindless pedaling technique to pass time.
Then the km100 mark came in and I found myself on the wrong place when gradient became steep.
The incline was short and successfully broke the pack.
I made my move and burned a big matchstick in order to bridge to the main peloton.
Lucky I was able to connect after a few minutes of uncomfortable effort and enduring another steep but short incline.
The peloton was somehow big and I was the last guy at the back.
While recovering, I took a mental note on that 100km mark for the next Ipoh Century ride. :D
A group broke away from the main pack and the pack was chasing.
I went to the front to take a look and noticed that Peter wasn't there.
Surely he was in the breakaway.
I thought of blocking but noticed that there was no need to do anything for the leaders on the front are fighting.
It seems that only a handful of cyclists wants to chase.
The speed became slower and I was able to relax and practice my spinning at the back.
At that time, the breakaway was succeeding for there was a long stretch highway and they are seen about 1-2km away.
Still there are problems on the front and the speed was now really riding and not racing. hehehe.
Then saw a spectacular crash where in which a rider went straight to the flowery shrubs.
I went back on my mindless pedaling technique planning to do a breakaway somewhere in the 15km mark.
Then the virtual distance marker came and I broke away.
I found myself timetrialling solo and another rider bridged to me.
But my rhythm got sour after we traded a few turns. There was no cohesion.
He was surging on the start of his turn and knocking off speed on the end of his interval.
My legs turned to jelly and peeled off when I saw the peloton inching closer with 10km to go.
So I went back to pack and thinking of doing another break on the 5km mark.
But disaster struck on the 5km mark after the pack went down the flyover.
Bikes and riders were all over the road and one rider flew into the barbed wire.
I was able to brake, filtered on a small space and started my chase.
The pack was around 200 meters away when I cleared the debris and doubted if could connect.
Anyways, I was lucky again that the remaining route had long stretches and I succeeded with 1km to go. :D
On the last corner, the pack rushed in and I pedaled easy at back.
Which was the right decision for there was another crash with 20meters to go. :)
Then I made sure that my timer beeped over the line, took the camera
and started snapping on JR jersies till my stomach started to grumble. :D

Re: 2011 Ipoh Century ride
yup, si kikodgreatsigbin Team oplok eh lastplacer kc na mechanical failure ang spraket (lumuwag) at FD cable (lumuwag rin).
very good riding for norman and rolandisasigbin!!! They were just a few minutes behind me riding a grupetto.
very nice riding also for Team CCK. Actually he could have placed on a much better time kung di siya tumigil at umihi at nagsolo riding. If looksigbin has seen paano siya nagride sa feloton eh he would be very proud and have high praises.
Very good and smart riding kay Amang at naghanap rin talaga ng malaking grupetto.
sigbinako eh walang pic kc hindi ko kaya pikturan sarili ko habang tumatawid sa penis line. team oplok!
